At the top of our list is the clever dust collection system that actually-—gasp!—-collects sawdust. DeWalt says it's 20 percent more efficient than conventional dust bags, but what we really like is the option to work without the dust extraction system in tight spaces. Just remove the collector box and flip the lever to close the collection valve, sealing off the intake, so no dust spews at you through the exhaust port. If you buy the inexpensive DW4050 adaptor, you can connect the sander right to your shop vacuum and eliminate the mess altogether. Speaking of accessories, the sander mounts in the DW4055 stand (sold separately) and becomes a stationary sander—-very slick! The belt tracks automatically, but should you need to adjust it, the process is quick and hassle-free, as are belt changes. Belt sanding takes a little muscle, but this sander's got such a low center of gravity that it practically does the work for you. It's super comfortable to use, too, thanks to the rubber grip and the front handle that can be set atop the tool or out in front, and we like that versatility.
