The very first flashlight was invented over 119 years ago. The flashlight acquired its name because the very first ones had to be “flashed” off and on in order
to work. Flashlights have come a long way over the years. The light bulbs and batteries used in the flashlights of yesteryear were extremely weak compared
to today’s standards. These first flashlights were so rudimentary that they didn’t even have on and off switches. There was simply a metal ring that had to be
twisted so the batteries would make contact and illuminate the light for short periods of time.

No one wants to be without an operational flashlight when they find themselves in the dark or working on a job in a dimly lit location. There are many different
types of flashlights, and they are designed to meet many different requirements. That’s why it’s important to choose the right flashlight for the right job.

One of the highest quality flashlights you can buy is an “LED” flashlight. This type of flashlight is extremely efficient because LED light bulbs outlast
incandescent light bulbs by as much as 25 times. They don’t use a filament, so they are much more durable than standard incandescent bulbs. LED light
bulbs are made from silicone chips and surrounded by a very durable synthetic product. LED lights can have a life span of up to 100,000 hours, and they
use very little energy compared to incandescent lights. That means you could leave it on for 11 years straight! The fact that they extremely durable and long
lasting makes them a great value for the money.

LED lights are available in several colors other than white, and they serve a variety of purposes. The colors produced are very pure and easy on the eyes.
The probes contained within the light bulbs themselves create eye-pleasing beams of light. Because the colors don’t originate from filters, they are extremely
sheer and natural.

Green and red LED lights are utilized for night vision. When it’s necessary to use night vision equipment to read maps, the best choice is a green LED
flashlight. Red notations will still be visible when using a green light, and green is said to be easiest on the eyes. Some people prefer red night vision lighting
due to the fact that it creates a much sharper contrast, but keep in mind that red markings on maps or charts will no longer be visible.

Blue LED lighting is used for night vision in certain situations, but it is not recommended for general night vision purposes. These lights are most often used
by crime scene investigators because they help illuminate bodily fluids, however, they do not clearly show details on charts and maps. Consider these
specifications when choosing a flashlight intended for nighttime use.

Candlepower rechargeable flashlights are a good choice because you won’t have to continually replace batteries, and they come in a wide variety of styles,
types, and intensities. “Candlepower” is the luminous intensity as stated in “candelas”. This is a scientific unit of measurement. The main thing to keep in
mind when choosing this type of flashlight is, the higher the candlepower the brighter the light.

Rechargeable flashlights with adapters that allow you to recharge them in your vehicle are very handy. They can be fully recharged quickly and easily
between uses. This option is well worth the extra expense.

When choosing a flashlight it’s best to pay a little extra to get a quality product that will be operational when you need it. Carefully go over the advantages of
several flashlights, and compare the costs. Take into consideration battery usage, size, weight, and other important features. A good quality flashlight will last
for many years. Invest in a flashlight that you won’t have to replace again and again. You may pay more initially for a quality flashlight, but you’ll save money
in the long run. You’ll have a flashlight you can count on when you need it the most.
