| DEWALT LAUNCHES 36V POWER TOOL PLATFORM – PROVIDING PROFESSIONAL USERS WITH THE POWER OF CORDED, WITHOUT THE CORD -- Seven Tool Platform Delivers Maximum Power, Runtime and Durability to Professional Users -- -- Independent Testing Finds New DEWALT 36V Provides the Performance of Corded Tools, While Delivering 2-3 Times More Run Time Than 18V Tools -- January 2006 – DEWALT, a leading manufacturer of industrial power tools, launched its new, innovative, heavy-duty 36V power tool product line, providing professional users with increased levels of power and runtime, with similar or less weight than their corded counterparts. Available in the first half of 2006, this line will be the most extensive available in 36V. It will include the 36V heavy-duty hammerdrill (DC900KL), reciprocating saw (DC305K), 7-¼” circular saw (DC300K), impact wrench (DC800KL), rotary hammer (DC232KL), jigsaw (DC308K), flashlight (DC509). Select tools will also be available in three combo kits: a four-piece combo kit (DCX6401), including the DC900, DC305, DC300 and DC509; a two-piece combo kit (DCX6200), including the DC900 and the DC300; and another two-piece kit (DCX6210), including the DC900 and the DC305. To ensure durability and reliability these tools were developed from the ground up to accommodate this new level of cordless power. The 36-volt platform was designed to provide professional contractors with the performance of a corded tool without the restriction of a power cord. During the research and development stage of the 36V platform, DEWALT conducted extensive field research to establish exactly how professional contractors use corded tools on the job. Sensors were attached to the tools to digitally record information. This information was collected electronically with data logger technology, which is a unique testing system developed and exclusively used by DEWALT, to determine the most effective high-voltage solution. As a result of this research, DEWALT determined 36V was the cordless platform with the capabilities that best matched or exceeded the performance of corded tools. To create the battery technology for the 36V platform, DEWALT partnered with A123Systems, a developer of a new generation of lithium-ion batteries that incorporates nanoscale technology developed at and exclusively licensed from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The 36V battery technology, provided exclusively to DEWALT for power tool applications, has a unique nano-phosphate lithium-ion design that offers a high-level of power, durability and life when compared to other conventional lithium technology. In addition to the battery technology, DEWALT developed the tools from the ground up with innovative features. The new features were designed to ensure that the 36V platform would provide professional users with a complete solution to perform heavy-duty corded applications without a cord. For example, the DC300K, 36V circular saw has a full-sized 7-1/4” blade. Additionally, the DC232KL, 36V rotary hammer is equipped with a patent pending SHOCKS Active Vibration ControlÔ, which helps to reduce vibration. For example: The DC900KL ½” hammerdrill can drill a 1-3/8” hole saw into 20 gauge steel 22 percent faster than the corded MilwaukeeÒ 0234 and the corded MilwaukeeÒ 0300*. The DC900KL has the ability to drill an average 67 holes using a 2-9/16” self feed bit through a 2”x10”, which is 2.6 times the amount of the number drilled by the industry’s leading 18V drill. * The DC305K was able to make cross cuts in 2”x10” material in 7.34 seconds, 28 percent faster than the corded MilwaukeeÒ 6509 corded reciprocating saw*. The DC305K made an average of 64 cross cuts of a 2”x10”, two times the amount of the industry’s leading 18V saw**. Heavy-Duty 36V Cordless Power Tool Platform Each tool in the new platform is powered by the 36V high-performance battery pack. The battery has a lightweight design, weighing the same as an 18V battery. Additionally the battery pack has the ability to deliver 2-3 times more run time than 18V tools. For maximum productivity, the battery was designed with no memory and virtually no self-discharge. Tool Highlights: · The ½” 36V hammerdrill/drill/driver kit (DC900KL) is equipped with a patented three-speed transmission that optimizes the speed of the application for maximum performance. A new, innovative ½” self-tightening chuck tightens throughout the drilling or driving operation to provide superior bit gripping. The DC900KL is built to withstand the jobsite environment and the most demanding applications. · The 36V reciprocating saw (DC305K) is equipped with an innovative 4-position keyless blade clamp, which allows the blade to be inserted in four different positions for added versatility and convenience when flush cutting. The DC305K also has a 3-position adjustable shoe, allowing users to easily adjust depth of cut. Additionally, the reciprocating saw is designed with a patented lever action keyless blade change for increased easy of use. · The 36V circular saw (DC300K) features a 7-1/4” carbide tipped blade for increased cutting capacity at 90° and 45°. DEWALT also designed the DC300K with an all-metal keyless blade clamp for quick and easy blade changes. A high strength magnesium shoe and upper guard provide increased durability. Additionally, the DC300K offers a 0-50° bevel capacity, with lever action detents at 22.5° and 45°. This allows for aggressive bevel cuts, while allowing users to locate common angles quickly. · The 36V SDS rotary hammer (DC232KL) is designed to offer users the same impact energy as corded tools with 1.9 ft-lbs of impact energy in a compact L-shaped design. Additionally, the DC232KL has the patent-pending SHOCKS Active Vibration Controlä system that significantly reduces vibration and increases user comfort and productivity. · The ½” 36V impact wrench (DC800KL) is designed with a patented all-metal anvil that holds sockets stronger and longer, and prevents shearing. Additionally, the wrench has a user preferred rocker switch design, allowing users to quickly and easily transition from forward to reverse. The DC800KL has a high-speed, all-metal transmission that delivers 0-1,400 rpm and 2,500 bpm for increased productivity. · The 36V jigsaw (DC308K) has an all-metal lever action keyless blade change for quick and easy blade changes. Additionally, DEWALT designed the DC308K with an all-metal keyless shoe bevel with detents at 0°, 15°, 30°, and 45°, providing versatility for easy bevel cutting.
